Effect of cartilage thickness mismatch in osteochondral grafting from knee to talus on articular contact pressures: A finite element analysis

چکیده

Objectives: The aim of this study was to investigate the effect cartilage thickness mismatch on tibiotalar articular contact pressure in osteochondral grafting from femoral condyles medial talar dome using a finite element analysis (FEA). Materials and methods: Flush-implanted performed centromedial aspect plugs with two different thicknesses. One had an equal recipient second plug thicker representing harvested knee. ankle joint loaded during single-leg stance phase gait. Tibiotalar pressure, frictional stress, equivalent stress (von Mises values), deformation were analyzed. Results: In both simulations, values) tibial surfaces restored near-normal values. Conclusion: Cartilage does not significantly change biomechanics, when graft is inserted flush surface.

Effect of graft height mismatch on contact pressures with osteochondral grafting of the talus.

BACKGROUND Osteochondral allograft transplantation is technically demanding. It is not always possible to place the surface of the graft perfectly flush with the surrounding cartilage. One must often choose between placing at least some portion of the surface of the graft slightly elevated or recessed. The effect of this choice on joint contact pressure is unknown. PURPOSE This study was unde...

Effect of osteochondral defects on articular cartilage. Contact pressures studied in dog knees.

Full thickness osteochondral defects 6 mm in diameter were created in the weight-bearing regions of the femoral condyles in 5 adult mongrel dogs to study the contact pressure changes accompanying healing. A digital imaging technique employing Fuji Prescale film mapped contact pressures following 11 months of healing for comparison with contralateral normal knees, and knees with freshly made def...

Articular cartilage paste grafting to full-thickness articular cartilage knee joint lesions: a 2- to 12-year follow-up.

PURPOSE To prospectively assess clinical outcomes and regeneration of osteoarthritic cartilage lesions treated with an articular cartilage paste grafting technique. TYPE OF STUDY Prospective, longitudinal case series. METHODS We treated 125 patients (136 procedures; 34% female, 66% male; mean age, 46 years; range, 17 to 73 years) with an Outerbridge classification of grade IV lesions with a...

The Effects of Thickness on Biomechanical Behavior of Articular Cartilage: a Finite Element Analysis

It is important to study joint contact mechanics in order to understand the human joint function and degeneration. In previous studies, the cartilage behavior was investigated using computational method assuming the cartilage to be flat and an ideal thickness. But, this assumption may not appropriate because the joint is naturally curved and the cartilage thickness varies across the articular c...
